3 Schools participating in the NC Promise Tuition Plan (Tuition is only $500.00 each semester)

Beginning Fall of 2018, Elizabeth State University, The University of North Carolina Pembroke, and Western Carolina University are participating in the North Carolina Promise Tuition Plan. Tuition for each semester will be $500.00. ($1,000 for the year).   Students are still responsible for room/board, etc.  Click here for the website to learn more. 

(LOCAL) North Carolina Community Foundation Scholarship Opportunities

The North Carolina Community Foundation offers several scholarships available specifically for students in Carteret County. Our list of scholarships available in 2017-2018 will be updated in February 2018. Scholarships for Carteret County: Carteret County Association of Home Builders Murdoch Scholarship, Carteret County Retired School Personnel Scholarship Endowment,  Edward S. Dixon Scholarship Endowment, Geraldine Mayo Beveridge Scholarship Endowment, Joseph H. (LOCAL) Swansboro Rotary Foundation Scholarship

The Swansboro Rotary Foundation will be awarding Four-Year College or University Scholarships up to $4,000 each, payable in equal amounts of $1,000 annually.  (The first two years may be completed at a community college.  The final two years must be completed at a four-year college or university.) (LOCAL) Carteret's Voice Singing Competition

There will be auditions for Carteret's Voice on January 27th from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at Glad Tidings Church. The winner will receive a cash prize scholarship.  To learn more and to register, please click here or see Mrs. Bernstein in Student Services for a paper application. The competition will be held on February 10th and February 17th.  The Winner will be crowned on March 10, 2018.

(LOCAL) Carteret-Craven Electric Foundation Scholarship

The Carteret-Craven Electric Foundation is offering a $4,000 scholarship to one CHS graduating Senior.  The student’s primary residence must be on the Carteret-Craven Elective Cooperative lines and cannot be a close relative of a CCEC employee. The scholarship is based 50% on need, 25% academic achievement, and 25% extracurricular activities. (LOCAL) Delta Kappa Gamme Society Scholarship 2018

Delta Kappa Gamma Society promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.  Delta Kappa Gamma is offering a scholarship of $500 to a female senior who will be attending college in the fall of 2018 and is planning on becoming a teacher. (LOCAL) Laurence A. Stith Memorial Music Scholarship

The Laurence A. Stith Memorial Music Scholarship is a scholarship for a graduating member of Carteret County high schools and must be accepted as a music major to a 4 year college. Music is defined to encompass vocal and instrumental music education, performance, and/or composition. The selected county high school graduate will receive $1000 in financial tuition assistance, paid to the college of their choice, in pursuit of their musical education and excellence. Both merit and financial need are considered in selecting the scholarship winner. (LOCAL) The Nancy Duffy Russell Scholarship for Education Majors

The Nancy Duffy Russell Scholarship is for a student residing in Carteret County, NC who is seeking a degree in Education.  The scholarship valued at $1,500 and will be awarded in four (4) equal payments as long as the student maintains a 3.0 average or better. (LOCAL) The Coastal Carolina Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Scholarship (CC-MOAA)

The Coastal Carolina Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (CC-MOAA) will offer four (4) $1000 academic scholarships for graduating seniors or college students. To be eligible for a CC-MOAA scholarship, the applicant must be an immediate family member who resides in the same household of a Retired U.S. Uniformed Services personnel living in Carteret, Craven, Jones or Pamlico Counties, or an immediate family member who resides in the same household of an Active Duty U.S. Uniformed Services personnel permanently assigned to a command within the ABOVE FOUR (4) county area.  Deployed military must be permanently assigned to a command within the above FOUR (4) county areas. (NC) The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program.

The North Carolina Teaching Fellows program has officially launched.  What is Teaching Fellows? The North Carolina Teaching Fellows program is a merit-based, competitive, forgivable loans-for-service program that provides up to $8,250 a year for up to four years to highly-qualified students committed to teaching special education or in a STEM field in a North Carolina public school. The first scholarships will be awarded for the 2018-2019 academic year. The program, is available through Elon, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, Meredith College and NC State University. (NC) The Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship

The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of NC will award a scholarship of $3,000 and a runner-up scholarship of $1,000 to two NC high school seniors, to be used at any NC college or university.  The recipients will be selected on the basis of merit of an essay on the assigned topic, plus character and the scholastic record and need.  Please click here for the on-line application and additional information.  Application deadline: February 4, 2018.

(NC) NC Alpha Delta Kappa: The Eunice Riggins Memorial Scholarship

The Eunice Riggins Memorial Scholarship is open to any young woman who is currently graduating from an accredited high school in NC and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university in NC next fall, and who meets eligibility requirements.  This is a one-year (non-renewable) scholarship in the amount of $2,000.  Eligibility requirements: A) Application submitted  to college of choice; B) Academic rank in top 10% of class; C) Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25; D) Good character; E) Participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community); F) Financial need (not the primary consideration).  Please see Mrs. Bernstein in Student Services for an application.  Application deadline: March 15, 2018.

The Mary Rose Mills-Linda Rankin Memorial Scholarship is open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited high school in NC and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university in NC next fall, and who meets eligibility requirements.  This is a one-year (non-renewable) scholarship in the amount of $2,000.  Eligibility requirements: A) Application submitted  to college of choice; B) Academic rank in top 10% of class; C) Minimum SAT score of 1290 or ACT composite score of 27; D) Good character; E) Participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community); F) Financial need (not the primary consideration).  Please see Mrs. Bernstein in Student Services for an application.  Application deadline: March 15, 2018.

(NC) NC Alpha Delta Kappa: The Clare Johnson Marley-Mary Earle Berger Fine Arts Scholarship

The Clare Johnson Marley-Mary Earle Berger Fine Arts Scholarship is open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited high school in NC and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university in NC next fall, and who is declaring as his/her major an area of the fine arts.  This is a one-year (non-renewable) scholarship in the amount of $2,000.  Eligibility requirements: A) Application submitted  to college of choice; B) Academic rank in top 20% of class; C) Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25; D) Good character; E) Participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community); F) Financial need (not the primary consideration).  Please see Mrs. Bernstein in Student Services for an application.  Application deadline: March 15, 2018.

(NATIONAL) Better Business Bureau Torch Scholarship

The Better Business Bureau Torch Scholarship program recognizes students who personify high ethical standards as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity, and academic success.  BBB Torch Scholarships are awarded to college-bound high school juniors and seniors.  To be eligible students must submit an essay of 500-1,000 words, along with an application, transcript and letter of recommendation from a BBB Accredited Business. Scholarship prizes totaling $20,000 – (1) $5,000, (2) $3,000, (3) $2,000 and (3) $1,000 will be offered. (NATIONAL) Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the Nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military families. Our scholarships are for children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen pursuing a post-secondary education at any accredited school—whether that be a trade school, career training, community college, or four-year university. We’re not competitive and we award scholarships to every eligible applicant. Since 1962, the Scholarship Foundation has provided nearly 40,000 scholarships, valued at over $110,000,000. Our scholarship application for the 2018-2019 academic year opened on January 1, 2018 and will close on March 1, 2018. The application can be accessed at www.mcsf.org/apply.

(NATIONAL) Farm Bureau R. Flake Shaw Scholarship

Farm Bureau works hard to support and encourage young people who hope to pursue a future in the agriculture industry. Farm Bureau is offering the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship.  They offer six individual university level scholarships for a four year period at $4,000 per year ($16,000 total per student).  They also offer four individual community college scholarships for a two year period at $1,000 per year ($2,000 total per student.)  To learn more and for the on-line application, please click hereApplication Deadline: March 5, 2018.

(NATIONAL) Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Founded in 1975, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) empowers Latino families with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete higher education, while providing scholarships and support services to as many exceptional Hispanic American students as possible. As the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, HSF has awarded more than $500 million in scholarships and provides a range of impactful programs for students, HSF scholars, alumni, and parents.
