Better Business Bureau Torch Scholarships recognize students who personify high ethical standards as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity, and academic history.

Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative Scholarship

This $4,000 scholarship is open to students whose primary residence is on Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative’s lines. To qualify, the student must be a high school senior in the current graduating class and must be accepted at a 2-year community/technical college or 4-year college or university. The student cannot be a close relative of a Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative employee or director; close relative being a spouse, child, grandchild, great-grand child, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, by blood, by adoption, or in-law of the employee or director. Ø Moreover, the ECU Military Science Department wants to make you aware of a paid internship program done in partnership with the North Carolina National Guard called the Simultaneous Membership Program.

Ø This internship can pay up to $80,000 towards tuition, books, fees, housing, and food over the course of four years in addition to allowing a student to intern as 2LT in an Army National Guard Unit.

Ø Successful completion of the Military Science Program at ECU will result in a commission as a 2LT in the Army, either part or full time.

In order to be considered for the ECU Honors College and the scholarships included, you must submit your undergraduate application to ECU by November 1, 2018 and if you receive an invitation to apply for the Honors College, all materials must be submitted by November 18, 2018. 

In addition, you must meet the minimum criteria within both the standardized test and high school achievement categories:

-Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 and/or minimum weighted GPA of 4.0

-Minimum mathematics/critical reading combined score of 1270 on the new SAT (or 1200 on the old SAT) or minimum ACT composite score of 27

National Beta Scholarship Program

12th grade students who are active National Beta members and duly registered with the national headquarters by November 1, of their senior year, are eligible to apply and participate in the scholarship competition.

Selection of National Beta Scholarship winners is based on a number of factors with special emphasis on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, commendable character, school and community service, as well as National Beta Involvement.

How to Apply:

  • Beginning November 1, 2018, you may access the National Beta Scholarship application online.
  • Enter your National Beta membership identification number and last name to gain access to the application—if you do not have this information, please ask your Beta Club Sponsor.
  • Complete the application.
  • You are required to submit your high school transcript and your ACT or SAT scores. Copies of these documents must be uploaded directly into your application. Your documentation will be verified for authenticity. No "super scoring" will be accepted.

Kurtz and Blum Law Firm Scholarship Contest

Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships-CLOSED

All Students grades 9-12!! The Daughters of the American Revolution are sponsoring the Christopher Columbus essay contest! This is a $500 scholarship and possible advancement to the state level. To get a copy of the essay topic as well as additional instructions, please visit Mrs. Sadler in student services. The deadline for turning in your completed essay to Mrs. Sadler is Friday, November 09, 2018. 


Seniors, please also ask for the additional packet of scholarships sponsored by the DAR! These scholarships vary in monetary amount, subject area, and demographic requirements. 


The John M. Belk Scholarship, Davidson’s flagship merit program, covers the comprehensive costs of attending Davidson (room, board, tuition and fees) – valued in 2018-19 at over $65,000.

Centennial Scholarship Program-NC State-CLOSED

The College of Textiles at North Carolina State University is now accepting endorsements for our Centennial Scholarship program, one of the largest college-based scholarship programs at NC State. 

The Centennial Scholarship program is designed for students who are interested in career fields such as engineering, business management, design, chemistry, polymers, forensics, medical fields, fashion merchandising and retail management.

Sunshine Lady Foundation Scholarships

The Sunshine Lady Scholarship program supports college bound students of all ages, majors, and schools. These available scholarships are merit and need-based. Many of these scholarships are "full-rides" considering satisfactory GPA and enrollment are met. Please call 252-393-7146 or email to obtain an application. Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) Program

The RIBN (Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses) program is designed for students that want to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at an affordable cost.  Students are dually enrolled in one of our community college partners and ECU and obtain their ADN and BSN in 4 years.  This program costs about ½ of what a traditional on campus program costs at a University, so it is perfect for anyone that is interested in obtaining a nursing degree!  The admission deadline is January 31st.


7 local community colleges are included (Beaufort, Carteret, College of the Albemarle, Craven, Lenoir, Pitt, and Roanoke-Chowan) along with East Carolina University. 

To be considered for admission, you must have earned a high school diploma and satisfy the minimum course requirements:

Four units of English,  Two units of social studies,  Four units of mathematics (algebra I, algebra II, geometry, and an advanced unit of mathematics beyond algebra II),Three units of science (life science, physical science, and a laboratory course; biology and chemistry preferred,  Two units of a language other than English.

Our Elon Teaching Fellows Program is a four-year sequenced, developmental and transformational $29,500 scholarship opportunity for the preparation of teachers who will become leaders in the field.  After applying to Elon, students may apply to the Fellows Programs until the deadline of January 10, 2019.

Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Scholarship-CLOSED

The Coastal Carolina Post, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) intends to award up to two, four-year college scholarships valued at $2,000 each. These scholarships will be awarded to the most deserving applicants based on academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and affiliation with SAME. 

The applicant must submit a completed application by November 1, 2018.

To be eligible for a scholarship the applicant must meet the following requirements:
(1) Be a high school senior planning to enroll in an engineering, architectural, or a similar technical field curriculum at an accredited college or university. College enrollment must be planned for the 2019/2020 school year.
(2) Have a minimum of a B average (3.0 on 4.0 scale).
(3) Meet at least one of the following:
a. Be a dependent of a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member.
b. Be sponsored by a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member. Note: If you do not have an SAME Member to sponsor your application, one will be appointed for you.
(4) Provide a completed application form to include: a copy of high school transcript; a copy of SAT/ACT results; and an approximate 500 word essay.
(5) Arrange for scholarship application reference forms to be completed by high school advisors, academic instructors, or immediate work supervisors (maximum of 3) for delivery to and received by Mr. Gil Burnet no later than November 1, 2018.

Goodnight Scholars Program-NC State University

In mid-December, the Goodnight Scholars Program will issue approximately 700-800 invitations to apply to prospective first-year NC State students who have applied for fall 2019 admission. This invitation gives each student access to the Goodnight Scholars Program online application. The invitation is sent to the email address listed on the student’s general NC State application. The application is accessible via Pack ASSIST.

To receive an automatic invitation to apply, a student must:

Prospective NC State students who wish to be considered for an invitation to apply may nominate themselves for consideration. This form also allows students to share unique academic and/or financial circumstances that they feel may cause them to be overlooked for an invitation to apply to our Program. The self-nomination form for the Class of 2023 will open on October 15, 2018, and close on December 1, 2018. Questions on the Goodnight Scholars Program application will focus on the student’s academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, and understanding of the role STEM fields play in addressing key societal and global issues. The application will also contain a section for the student to self-report household income and other financial information. Applications will be due January 15, 2019 and will be reviewed by a committee of NC State faculty, staff, alumni, and campus partners.

Lenoir-Rhyne Univeristy Teaching Scholars Scholarship Program

Lenoir-Rhyne University is pleased to announce the fifth year of the LR Teaching Scholars scholarship program. The application is now open to exemplary high school seniors to receive this prestigious scholarship and develop the skills to become effective teacher leaders for our public schools. Fall 2019 applications are being accepted now for this $5,500 per year scholarship. The Gates Scholarship-CLOSED

The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, full scholarship for exceptional, Pell-eligible, minority, high school seniors. 


Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Levine Scholars Program-UNC Charotte-CLOSED

The Levine Scholars Program seeks outstanding high school seniors who are eager to embark on a transformative college experience. Requirements include:

  • Students must be applicants for freshman enrollment at UNC Charlotte in an undergraduate program for the fall term immediately following their high school graduation. Note: Students must be admitted to UNC Charlotte to receive a Levine Scholarship.
  • Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Students must demonstrate a commitment to community service, hold an academic record that reflects a sustained passion for knowledge, and possess a capacity for ethical leadership that elevates fellow students to a higher standard.

The Bryan Scholarships at Davidson College-CLOSED

The Bryan Scholars Program offers two scholarships, one each for a male and a female scholar athlete in each entering class. The Scholarships are valued at $35,000 annually, totaling $140,000 during the recipients' Davidson careers. Bryan Scholars are impact players at the NCAA Division 1 level in one of the 18 eligible sports, outstanding students, and leaders both in the classroom and in their sports. If you are interested in Davidson College and feel you may be a good candidate for this scholarship please speak to your coach as well as Mrs. Sadler in student services before September 18 to be nominated for this scholarship. Please note, by October 15th you will need to submit your admission application, one letter of recommendation as well as speak to the Davidson coach of your eligible sport via letter or email and provide athletic profile information. 

Park Scholarship-NC State University-Closed

To be eligible, you must be a competitive applicant on track to graduate in the Spring of 2019 and have a completed application on file at NC State. Selection criteria is based on leadership, scholarshipcharacter, and service. If you are interested in being a school nominee for this scholarship, you will share (in Google Docs with Jessica Sadler) your resume as well as an essay (no more than 2 pages) expounding upon how you meet the four selection criteria listed above. Include in this essay if you may be interested in the Morehead-Cain Scholarship as well offered by UNC-Chapel Hill. The deadline to submit these materials is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5. 


After all students materials are submitted, the scholarship selection committee will meet and nominate 2 candidates.  Remember, if you are not a school chosen nominee, you have the option to self-nominate through the wolfpaw portal.

Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill-CLOSED

To be eligible, you must be a competitive applicant on track to graduate in the Spring of 2019 and have a completed application on file at UNC. Selection criteria is based on leadership, scholarship, moral force of character, and physical vigor. If you are interested in being a school nominee for this scholarship, you will share (in Google Docs with Jessica Sadler) your resume as well as an essay (no more than 2 pages) expounding upon how you meet the four selection criteria listed above. Include in this essay if you may be interested in the Park Scholarship as well offered by NC State University. The deadline to submit these materials is Friday, October 5.


After all students materials are submitted, the scholarship selection committee will meet and nominate 3 candidates. Chosen candidates will be notified no later than Friday, September 28. Remember, if you are not a school chosen nominee, you have the option to self-nominate through the MHC portal.

Elks Scholarship-CLOSED

The Elks 2019 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen.

Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

The deadline for applications is November 15, 2018.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2019 competition.

Male and female students compete separately. Ranging from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.


(LOCAL) Ocean Lodge Masonic Scholarship

The Masons of Ocean Lodge #405 A.F. & A.M., located in Morehead City, NC are offering a $1,000 scholarship to students graduating from Croatan High School or West Carteret High School.  Students must have been accepted by an accredited College, University, or Vocational School.  To learn more and to receive an application, please see Mrs. Bernstein in Student Services.  Application Deadline: July 1, 2018. ** Please note that you may want to complete this application before May 31st in order to get the recommendation letters, transcripts, test scores, etc. that the scholarship application requires.
