$10,000 State Employees Credit Union (SECU) People Helping People Scholarship 2019

The People Helping People Scholarship 2019 is offered through the generosity of the State Employees Credit Union (SECU).

Beginning in 2018, new eligibility requirements, as well as new procedures for the application process, were put into place by SECU.

NEW eligibility requirement: "Scholarship will only be awarded to public high school seniors who are either members of SECU or eligible for membership through a parent/guardian." For proof of membership, just the top portion of a bank statement with the student's or parent's name and address and SECU's logo or a photocopy of the statement in the mailing envelope is perfect. This will be required with application. For information on how to become a member: https://www.ncsecu.org/aboutsecu/MembershipEligibility.html

NEW Application Process: SECU has changed the process for awarding the scholarships to a district level-based decision-making model. Each Carteret County high school will submit their top 2 choices to a County Committee that will decide the winner for each high school. Please adhere to these deadlines, not those listed on SECU’s website.

Step 1: Google Form will be sent out on February 8, 2019, to all Carteret County high school students via their school email accounts.

Step 2: “Proof” materials due to Mrs. Sadler by February 19, 2019, before 3 p.m. All materials need to be in one sealed envelope with your full legal name and “People Helping People Scholarship 2019” on the outside. Please see bottom for the 4 required "proof materials."

Step 3: For verified students, applications will be provided and will be due to Mrs. Sadler by March 5, 2019, before 3 p.m.

Step 4: 2 CHS Finalists will be notified by March 11, 2019.

Step 5: CHS Finalists’ Bio, Consent, and Photo due to Mrs. Sadler by March 18, 2019, before 3 p.m.

Step 6: Finalists from each high school will be sent to the County Committee by March 25, 2019.

(Proof Materials) How can you be ready ahead of time? Gather these items: 1. Proof of SECU Membership 2. Page 1 of your FAFSA  3.Copy of your acceptance letters to only the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System 4. Photo, headshot only
