About Mr. Slater

Welcome to my class.  This is my thirteenth year at Croatan and fourteenth year teaching overall.  I teach senior English, which focuses on British literature, and junior American literature.  I believe writing is important so we do quite a bit in class.  In addition to teaching I am also the men's and women's soccer coach.

Current Schedule (Spring 2019):

1st- English IV

2nd- English III

3rd- English III

I am looking forward to another great year at Croatan.

English IV

In senior English we will explore British literature through a critical lens. There are six criticisms we will explore: readers response, archetypal, historical, feminism, Marxist, and cultural.

Each six weeks there will be one speech and one paper as major assignments to go along with any tests that are taken.

For the first six-weeks the class will focus on exploring literature from a feminist perspective.

English III

English III is a study of the American Dream using the rhetorical appeals: ethos, logos, and pathos.  We will use works from American authors to see how America has evolved.

Each six weeks there will be one speech and one paper as major assignments to go along with any tests that are taken.
