Ms. Kay Zimarino
Ext. 102

I have been in the educational field since joining as a lateral entry teacher in 1989.  I began my career in Lenoir County Public Schools as an elementary art teacher for 6 years and high school for 3 years before moving to Croatan High School when it first opened in 1998.  While at Croatan, I taught art for 7 years and moved into an administrative role in 2005.  This is my 5th year as principal at Croatan High School.

I received both my undergraduate and master’s degrees from East Carolina University. I also earned my National Board Certification while teaching art at Croatan High School.

My husband and I have two sons, both graduated from Croatan High School.  My oldest graduated from ECU with a degree in Coastal and Environmental Geology. My youngest son graduated from Barton College where he earned two degrees: Business and Sports Management. He played for the Barton golf team throughout his time there.

I love the Croatan culture of academic excellence and student involvement. We have an outstanding staff and amazing students and it is my privilege to serve as principal.

Mr. Chris Davis
Ext. 115

My education career began as a student at East Carolina University, where I met my wife. We married in 2013 in New Bern and in the following year I graduated from ECU with a dual degree in History and History Education.

After graduation, my wife and I moved to Edenton, North Carolina to teach Social Studies at John A. Holmes High School. While teaching in Edenton, I was honored with the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award for North Carolina for participating in the National History Day competition and represented our great state as a national nominee. In 2016, we moved to Morehead City to be near family in Carteret County and began teaching at Croatan High School. I taught Social Studies for three more years while completing my masters degree and in July of 2019, I became an assistant principal at Croatan.

In May of 2020, I graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Masters of School Administration, the same month we welcomed our first child, Chandler, into the world. We truly enjoy the physical beauty of Carteret County almost as much as the welcoming community of people who call this place home

I began my career in education in 1990 as a high school math teacher at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia.  In 1998 I moved to Carteret County where I worked as a high school counselor at Croatan High School for seventeen years. In 2015 I became the assistant principal at Broad Creek Middle School where I worked for three years.  In 2018 I became one of the assistant principals at West Carteret High School and most recently returned this school year to Croatan to serve as assistant principal.

I attended Virginia Tech, Lynchburg College and East Carolina University.  I  earned a B.S. in Mathematics, a Masters in School Counseling as well as a Masters in School Leadership. I earned National Board Certification in 2007 and Re-Certification in 2017.

I have been married for 20 years to Jeff and have a daughter, Emily, who is a senior at Croatan this year.  She plans to pursue a degree in nursing after high school.  I am happy to be “back home” at Croatan again!
